Mediterranean Design
Beginning in the 15th century, furniture styles and home accessories were commonly traded by land and
sea between Italy, France and Spain. Europeans also incorporated influences from this Mediterranean
regions into their architectural styles and home interior designs.
Many homeowners like the Mediterranean style which combines uniqueness, subtle elegance and
simplicity. This classic design makes use of outdoor elements and earthy materials like stone, wood, and
colors. Walls and ceilings are given a rustic touch with color washing, faux stucco, exposed stone or brick,
and Venetian plaster finishes. Earthen colors like terracotta red, grassy green, gold, orange, and
sunflower yellow are frequently seen hues. Mediterranean inspired rooms are accessorized with large
vases, rustic candle holders, wrought iron black fixtures, and flowers.
